There were five shutouts chucked Tuesday night. Should Baseball PowerStat Challenge players expect more of the same today for the $2 tournament that closes early this afternoon ET?
Probably not. Andy Pettitte (Yankees), Mike Pelfrey (Mets), Brandon Webb (DBacks), Duchscherer (A's) and Pineiro (Cardinals) did the trick last night. Aside from Cy Young champ Webb, this is hardly a who's who of pitching's elite.
The Yankees and Red Sox each host a 1 p.m. ET game this afternoon with Josh Beckett hosting Livan Hernandez and Sidney Ponson chucking for the Yanks against Edwin Jackson.
Mark Mulder makes his starting debut at Philly later, but its hard to imagine him going shutout a) against the Phillies and b) in his first prolonged outing of 2008.
There are possible dominant performances waiting to happen in Milwaukee and Toronto where ace Ben Sheets (I guess he is co-ace now that C.C. Sabathia is in town) and erratic A.J. Burnett fire for the home teams.
Carlos Zambrano, the Cubs' ace who got some starting companionship at the top of the order when Rich Harden was traded there yesterday, also throws. He will face rookie Johnny Cueto, who has been great some starts, shitty some starts.
