It’s a ‘Tradition Like No Other’ and we are adding to the truly unique tradition with a truly unique golf contest.
The Golf Free Agent Challenge will kick off here with The Masters next weekend and it’s a chance to prove your golf knowledge and win some cash instead of just bragging rights.
Essentially, you will be asked to pick nine golfers each week to carry your team to victory. You designate two golfers for each of the four rounds of the tournament. The ninth golfer is your tie-breaker.
The strategy comes in deciding which golfer you use on which day. Because once you use players each round, you can’t use them again for the rest of the tournament.
So don’t just dig out the money listings and mindlessly pull out names. Get out all the stats, putter around a bit and start planning.
If Tiger tends to tear it up on Sunday, don’t put him on your Thursday team. If Colin Montgomery can’t finish on Sunday, perhaps he is perfect for Friday.
Each day you create a golf team. You are awarded the total score for your team that day.
Example:
You have picked for Round 1 – Team 1 (Tiger Woods | Rory Sabbatini)
Tiger scores 68 and Rory scores 72 – Round 1 Score: 140
The two players picked in Round 1 would not be available for you to select from in creating the teams for Rounds 2, 3 or 4.
The scoring is based on:
• Your team score from your two golfers from Round 1
Plus
• Your team score from your two golfers from Round 2
Plus
• Your team score from your two golfers from Round 3
Plus
• Your team score from your two golfers from Round 4
The fantasy performer with the lowest combined four-round total will be the winner, collecting accolades and a paycheque.
In case of a tie the GM with the lowest scoring (four rounds) tie-breaker golfer wins.
If there still is a tie then the prize will be split equally.
It all starts for The Masters, but start thinking about strategy and start researching which golfers perform well generally and specifically at The Masters.
Good luck. And don’t forget to sign up for the other great contests and tournaments here.
